The Strong Breast Revolution

Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland - 07-29 Aug 2009

The Strong Breast Revolution is a hilarious and disarmingly honest theatre production by the Canuk Theatre Company, examining the personal and public relationship we have with breasts.

It's now to be taken to the Edinburgh Festival this summer following a few more London performances. The concept for the play stems from the prevailing sense that Western society portrays women's bodies in an unhealthy light. Women's breasts are rarely offered a public arena without sexual intent, and while bare breasts are accepted in tabloids and advertising, women are still being made to feel embarrassed and even criminal if they breastfeed in public. With such hypocrisy in our society and so many women clearly dissatisfied with their appearance, it is felt that it is vital to support women, young and old, to learn to be comfortable in their own bodies.

The performers are topless throughout. The company also offers workshops to promote positive body image in women and girls, with a specific focus on the personal and public relationship we have with our breasts. There's a good fit with our aims, and as audience members are likely to tune into a different way of thinking, British Naturism will be supporting the Edinburgh shows by way of a small donation and our 'What is Naturism?' leaflets will be displayed and distributed. BN's former Chairman Richard Daniels has become involved with the production since seeing it last year and will help to fly the flag for naturism and BN. Find the show at The Space on the Mile, The Radisson Space 1, from 7-29 August (not Sundays) at 2.50 p.m. More info at www.canuktheatre.co.uk
