Jazz Festival

Jazz Festival - 27 Jun to 30 Jul 2013

I don't know if it was luck or divine intervention but the 2012 Naturist Foundation Jazz Festival was again blessed with sunshine despite it being in the middle of the wettest summer for a long time. Of course that did, unfortunately, mean that it was necessary to wrap up when the sun went down but didn't affect the undeniable quality of the music.

Day tickets were available but the four night package cost £140 and gave you four nights (starting on Thursday evening) and two whole days of the best jazz in Britain with a mini beer festival thrown in. The list of stars was impressive and there was something to appeal to all tastes, ranging from avant guard beat poetry to good old, tried and tested, trad.

For those of you who couldn't make it and are wondering just what an excellent array of World class jazz musicians you missed, click here for the full 2012 line-up. But just as a taster, we were blessed with the likes of Alan Barnes, Jim Hart, Colin Good, Art Theman, Karen Sharpe, Vasilis Xenopoulos, Chris Lowe Mike Piggot and Deirdre Cartwright to name but a very very few (apologies to those not mentioned).

Who would thought that the umbrellas in the umbrella parade would not have been needed to actually keep the rain off! To the delight of campers and even our jazz indifferent members, we marched around the grounds accompanied by Martin Litton and his “Rhythm” before settling down outside the marquee in the sunshine to listen to the Saturday afternoon session. And all in a naturist setting.

This year the festival village had grown and, along with the burger van and beer tent, included a number of craft and bric a brac stalls giving the whole event a wonderful friendly ambience. And the best news is, it will all be there next year to justify our inclusion on the Wiki list of notable jazz festivals!
