Lanzarote, home of the Timanfaya National Park, has active volcanoes and white sandy beaches, and its only 70 miles (115 km) from the African coast. Great parts of its surface are covered with ashes and lava, making you feel that you were on the moon. It is the least mountainous of the Canary Islands. The sun shines for many hours throughout the year, which allows sun worshippers to enjoy the long white-sand beaches and clear waters. The wind is constant and moderate almost all year, making Lanzarote a suitable place for the practice of yachting, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
